John 10:27-28
²⁷ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. ²⁸ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Yesterday, we talked about the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard. The vineyard owner went out throughout the day and hired workers. At the end of the day, he paid the ones who worked only a few hours the same amount as he had promised to pay those who worked all day. The point of the story being that the promise of Heaven is for everybody, including those who don't start working for the kingdom until later in life.

Today, we are going to consider the story from a different perspective: someone who didn't get hired until 5:00. He had been waiting all day for an opportunity to work. Nothing had come up. By noon, he was really starting to worry. Without the day's wages, how would he be able to buy dinner for his family? How would he pay for a room that night? His future was very uncertain.

In contrast, somebody who had been hired at 6:00 that morning had peace of mind. He was secure in the knowledge that his wages would provide for his family that night.

We have that same kind of peace of mind because we are followers of Jesus Christ. We don't have to worry about our eternity. Our future is secure.

Those who do not know Jesus do not enjoy this certainty about their future. As Christians, charged with loving our neighbors, it's our job to help them find it.

Pray today, as you did yesterday, for those who do not yet know God, for an opportunity to introduce somebody to God, and for the courage to make the most of that opportunity.
