20But you, dear friends: build each other up on the foundation of your most holy faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, 21keep each other in the love of God, wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will give you eternal life.
Did you ever notice that a baby's eyes look really big? If you have, there's a good reason for it. A baby's eyes are really big. In fact, we are born with nearly full-sized eyeballs. Our eyes grow very little--a negligible amount--as we age.
Of course, the rest of us grows a lot, especially during the first couple of years. Did you know that if you take the height of a 2-year-old and double it, the result will be close to his height when he's fully grown?
Eventually, we stop growing--except for our noses and ears. Those parts of the human body continue to grow as long as we live. Have you ever noticed that older people have larger noses and ears? That's why when people have nose jobs, it makes them look younger.
A good relationship with God is a process of growth. It's ears and nose kind of growth. It's not growth that you hardly notice. It's not growth that goes to a certain point and then stops. It's never-ending, every day growing that results in a good relationship with God.
How are you growing in your faith?
